The Detroit Lions represent many things to the city of Detroit, both good and bad. One of the oldest and most storied franchines in the sport, Detroit has been cheering for the lions since 1934, when they left Portsmoth Ohio to become the Detroit Lions. There have been ups, such as the championships in the '50s with Bobby Lane, and downs such as the infamous 0-16 season, which many attribute to the Bobby Layne curse. Throughout it all, however, the Lions have been a staple in Detroit, and with new leadership in General Manager Brad Holmes and Head Coach Dan Campbell have risen to the top of the league.
Over the past 5 years, the Lions have gone from a laughing stock under Bob Quinn and Matt Patricia to a power house. When hired in 2021, Dan Campbell promised the city one thing. That no matter what, the Lions would fight to represent the city in the best way possible. Many were skeptical, mainly due to his introuductury Press confrence where to many he seemed like a classic football meathead. His infamous "biting kneecaps" quote started a flurry of negative discourse, with many thinking he will be gone in 2 years. Instead, he took the lions to their 1st playoff win in 30 years, multiple playoff wins at that, and back to back Division Titles, something they havent done since the '90s with Barry Sanders. Some may still think he is just a meathead, but to Detroit, he is the football savior.
